500 Days of Summer (2009)
“Do you ever do this, you think back on all the times you’ve had with someone and you just replay it in your head over and over again and you look for those first signs of trouble?” - Tom
The first time I ever watched 500 Days of Summer was literally the day after my first break up. You might think I’m stupid but I am 100% certain of my decision. 500 Days of Summer was a story between Tom and his supposed girlfriend-of-his-dreams, Summer. But Summer was anything but ideal. She was bipolar, indecisive, but what made Summer so beautiful to me, was she was real. And that was what made the entire film beautiful-- the plot was raw and untainted. The mix of humor and drama was balanced and sewn to perfection. The cinematography did a play on manual art and digital art. And it was just truly an honor to watch. Above everything, despite being heartbroken, it left me with hope, that like Tom, (spoiler alert), it may not have worked out with my Summer but I’ll find my Autumn one day.
