Ginger and Rosa (2012)

"The only life is the one we have now, which is why we must seize it and live while we have the chance."

Directed by Sally Potter, Ginger(Elle Fanning) and Rosa (Alice Englert), are two adolescent girls living in the era of the Cold War. The world they are in, is on the brink of nuclear catastrophe and this clearly resonates throughout the film. Both girls don't come from traditional families- Ginger even refers to her father on a first name basis. They've been best friends from birth, when their mothers met in the delivery room. They're inseparable- from roving about late into the night, to hitch hiking with suspicious men, to campaigning against the use of nuclear weapons. However, their friendship becomes strained at a certain point in the film and Sally Potter, who is also the writer, reveals the aftermath in an emotional and complex manner.
